Consistent action and persistence are key in my book.

And, Amber, I would like to add one more piece to the equation. No matter what it is the person/company is doing/creating, I believe they must Expect they will succeed. Whether that success is measured by money or being acknowledged as making the greatest _________ ever known doesn't matter. The person/company must Expect to succeed.

Great topic--and, you seemed to be quite passionate about it. Until later, aloha. It reminds me...Amber, I absolutely loved this post! It reminds me of Malcolm Gladwell's article, "Late Bloomers." (Let me know if you haven't read it yet and I'll email it to you!) He talks about artists who reach their creative peak much later in life (dispelling the myth that true talent and natural creativity must arise in our youthful years). In the end, he touches on another pattern -- these "late bloomers" are successful because of the champions you describe, people who fully support them in their work, giving them the space to develop their creativity over time.

In my own life, I feel like timing and luck played major roles in finding my passion in the first place. I first came to Peru because my professor at the time sent a mass email out to all her students about an international internship opportunity. It was a national competition and even though I didn't have international develop experience, I happened to have studied Spanish in high school AND my research background was in infant development, which is exactly what they were looking for. If I hadn't been accepted for the internship, I would have never even thought of coming back to live here indefinitely! =)Samantha Bangayanhttp://www.whatlittlethings.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2031530258657685977.post-80073844127181494282011-09-16T14:07:27.354-07:002011-09-16T14:07:27.354-07:00...and a good one it was, indeed. :)...and a good one it was, indeed. :)Erin Feldmanhttp://www.factotumep.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2031530258657685977.post-35612606484321926002011-09-16T13:50:42.493-07:002011-09-16T13:50:42.493-07:00Already read both and left you a comment ;-)Already read both and left you a comment ;-)Words Done Writehttp://wordsdonewrite.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2031530258657685977.post-80618235059088144432011-09-16T13:29:46.217-07:002011-09-16T13:29:46.217-07:00Haha! I am much more passionate about my hobbies than I am about my job. I like my job and look forward to coming to work but my passion is more about the people I get to deal with than talking about 'insurance'.
